Anniversary of Greece Joining the CoE

On August 9th 1949, Greece became the 11th member State of the Council of Europe. Greece became the first country to join the group of ten founding States.

This is an important date for Greece, Europe, and Human Rights Protection.

The European Convention of Human Rights, adopted in the context of the Council of Europe, remains the cornerstone of human rights protection in Greece.
